New Orleans Vol. III is the 1983 album by the Preservation Hall Jazz Band. The musicians on this release are Willie Humphrey (clarinet), James Miller (piano), Frank Parker (drum), Frank Demond (trombone), Narvin Kimball (banjo), Allan Jaffe (tuba), and Percy Humphrey offering the vocal in "When The Saints Go Marchin' In". This was released on CD in 1987 by CBS Records in Canada.
This is not free jazz, this is not smooth jazz, this is not bebop, this is not funky jazz. This goes back to the days of Dixieland, when hearing the music meant going to a venue or just stepping outside of your home and waiting for the band to stroll the streets. The Preservation Hall Jazz Band were formed to honor the musicianship and the music of those who played the music they loved, without care, without egos. This release also honors the music and people of New Orleans, Louisiana with style and grace. The music may not have a lot of flash, but what it lacks in flash it makes up for in class.
