Soul Source is normally affiliated with compilations filled with remixes and edits but this jazz comp are the straightforward songs by the original artists, compiled this way for your enjoyment. All of them are from the Verve Records vaults. Soul Source: Verve Sessions is a Japan-only release.

A series of CD's in Japan has lead to an awareness of the Soul Source production team. But peel behind the disguise and one will discover that Soul Source consists of one man, Kenichi Yanai. Through a series of compilations, he has shined the spotlight on a number of dance, soul, and jazz artists from Japan. Kenichi has also released a series of remix albums, including exclusive remixes for Jackson 5 and Earth Wind & Fire. In collaboration with the Verve Remixed compilation series, Soul Source put together a compilation CD of some of his favorite tracks on Verve. Thievery Corporation released a compilation selecting their favorite songs from the Verve vaults, and this one is a revealing look at his own collection, including a few not-so-obvious choices. Even if you're unfamiliar with the work of Soul Source or have no idea who he is, this stands out as an excellent, untypical compilation of Verve's bright spots, both old and new. Again, while Soul Source is known for his remixes and re-interpretations, these songs are in their original form. No remixes, no megamixes and segueways.
